London clubs leave Premier League rivals for dead with star transfers but who is the best?

Transfer Bin

Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Crystal Palace stars are all in the running but which signing has been the best this season?

As we pass the halfway stage in the Premier League season, clubs are jostling for position ahead of the business end of the campaign.

It can be no coincidence that the Gunners, Spurs, the Hammers and the Eagles are all enjoying fantastic seasons after some superb transfer business in the summer.

Each club made shrewd acquisitions and they have gone on to outshine all their Premier League rivals, establishing themselves as genuine stars of the league.

But which has been the best signing? It is time to have your say.

Arsenal: Petr Cech - £10m

Cech was hailed as the missing piece of the Arsenal jigsaw when Arsene Wenger managed to take him from London rivals Chelsea.

It was predicted by many pundits and fans that the big Czech Republic legend would be worth 10-15 points this season for the north Londoners.

That prediction was mocked by some on the opening day of the season when Cech was arguably at fault for both goals in a 2-0 home defeat to West Ham.

He was even dropped for the Champions League home defeat to Olympiacos.

But my how he has proved those initial predictions right. Cech has shone as the Gunners have propelled themselves to the top of the league and has won them crucial matches over the festive period to put his side on course to challenge for a first title in 12 years.

Tottenham: Toby Alderweireld - £11.5m and Dele Alli - £5m

While Toby Alderweireld was accustomed to the Premier League after his stellar season with Southampton in 2014/15, Dele Alli was plucked from relative obscurity when he was snapped up from MK Dons.

Alderweireld has been hailed as the major factor behind Spurs' equal league best record of just two defeats in 20 games.

A rock alongside his Belgian international teammate Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld looks the real deal and a snip at just over £11m.

Alli has established himself as one of the brightest young stars in Europe under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino with five goals to his name so far this season.

Not only that but he has also gatecrashed the England first team and looks a sure bet to be a key player at the European Championships for Roy Hodgson's side this summer. If Alderweireld is a snip at £11.5m then Alli looks an absolute steal.

The pair have helped Spurs progress to not only realistic challengers for the top four but even the title in this most open of Premier League seasons.

West Ham: Dimitri Payet - £10m

The Hammers paid Marseille £10m for a player that has turned out to be the signing of the decade for West Ham.

The ridiculously talented Frenchman has shone from the moment he bullied Arsenal in the season opener and has weighed in with five goals so far from his 13 games and countless more assists.

With him in the side West Ham average just under three goals per game and he is being hailed the new Paolo Di Canio given his influence on the east Londoners' results.

Slaven Bilic was robbed of the mercurial talent for two months but he is back now and made an instant impact on his return to action in the 2-0 win over Liverpool last time out.

He is behind only Mesut Ozil in the playmaker charts despite sitting out the last two months.

It is a sobering thought that Payet cost West Ham £0.6m less than flop Matt Jarvis.

If Bilic's sixth placed Irons can keep him fit, they could well challenge for a Champions League spot.

Crystal Palace: Yohan Cabaye - £10m

Like his compatriot Payet at West Ham, former Newcastle United star Yohan Cabaye has been massively influential after something of a surprise move to Selhurst Park for a club record fee.

His relationship with Alan Pardew was key to the Eagles pulling off one of the most stunning pieces of business last summer and it is paying off with Palace sitting pretty in seventh place, just behind West Ham.

Cabaye also has five goals, including three penalties, but it is his all-round game and class which has elevated Palace on to new levels.

An experienced and gifted player Cabaye can control the temp of a match and be the decisive player for his side.

Worth his weight in gold to the Eagles and his and Payet's decision to join Palace and West Ham has made the Premier League infinitely more competitive.
