Don Hutchison slams Lee Cattermole's efforts during Sunderland v Liverpool

Sunderland were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool last night.

Don Hutchison has criticised Lee Cattermole’s work rate during Sunderland’s match against Liverpool last night.

Sunderland were beaten 1-0 by Jurgen Klopp’s side at the Stadium of Light, with Christian Benteke scoring the winning goal for the visitors.

The Black Cats actually put in an encouraging display in the contest, but Hutchison was less than impressed by Cattermole’s showing.

Cattermole has missed out on starting in Sunderland’s last four matches due to injury.

The combative midfielder’s importance to the Black Cats was highlighted by his absence, as Allardyce’s men lost all four of their matches without him.

That is arguably the reason why he was rushed back to fitness, but Hutchison clearly felt that the gamble of playing him did not pay off.

Sunderland’s defeat to Liverpool leaves them seven points adrift of safety, with their next match coming against fellow relegation strugglers Aston Villa on Saturday.
