Hughes damaged his cruciate ligament on the very first day of the season, in what was a major blow for Derby.
However, as the 20-year-old prepares to step up his comeback, Clement has praised the central midfielder’s attitude.
“Will is doing really well and his attitude and drive to get back fit has been outstanding,” he said.
“He is the first in and the last to leave - I think he will come back a better athlete for this.“Will is working hard on the strength of his body; he is clearly a talented and technically gifted footballer but this time out has given him the opportunity to develop his body.”
This is the first time in Hughes’ burgeoning career that he has suffered a lengthy lay-off with injury, but he seems to have come through the worst of it.
The England youth international is expected to return to training in January, before making his come back to first team action in February.
Given the severity of the injury, Hughes has made quick progress to come back - but he will face a fight to break into Derby’s team.
Clement has has a number of options available to him in central midfield - with Jeff Hendrick, George Thorne and Jacob Butterfield all in good form.
