Arsenal's Petr Cech worthy of Premier League record, says David James

The former goalkeeper has praised Arsenal's current number one after he set a new clean sheet record.

Speaking to TalkSport, David James has praised Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech after he broke his Premier League clean sheet record.

The Gunners goalkeeper managed to keep out Bournemouth on Monday evening, taking him to 170 clean sheets across his Premier League career.

James, who had accrued 169 across his numerous Premier League appearances for Liverpool, Portsmouth and Manchester City, had previously held that record.

And rather than being bitter about being surpassed by Cech, James says that the former Chelsea is well worthy of being the man to take the record from him.

“Petr Cech is exceptional,” he told TalkSport.

“His record is nearly a clean sheet every two games, which is quite remarkable considering he’s been doing that now for 11 years in the Premier League.”

“He’s quite a remarkable man and well worthy of holding the record.”

With Cech having proved as astute signing by manager Arsene Wenger in the summer, Arsenal fans will be hoping he can continue to impress for the rest of the season.

The goalkeeping spot has long been a weakness for the Gunners, with a succession of goalkeepers having failed to impress in the position.

Cech has done just that though, with his experience and quality helping his side to the fifth best defensive record in the division so far.

That kind of defensive record is sure to be key to any title hopes they harbour this season, with Cech’s influence already having helped them to the top of the table.
