The Dutchman has struggled for regular football this season.
The Black Cats have been linked with a move for the Anderlecht player in the Daily Mirror today, as reported by Belgian source Het Laatste Nieuws.
The reason why the Belgian papers have picked up on this story however is due to the way it was headlined. The English story said that Sunderland were interested in the player 'who has impressed in Belgium so far this season.'
That statement amused Belgian journalists. Nuytinck has far from impressed. He has played just three games for the club this season and has struggled to perform on a regular basis for the club.
So would Sunderland really be keen on a player who cannot buy a game in Belgian football?
It would be odd to see Sam Allardyce bring in the player, who joined Anderlecht in 2012 from NEC Nijmegen.
Sunderland are no doubt in need of defensive recruits but they could seemingly do a lot better than the signature of a player whose days in Belgian football appear to be over.
