Arsene Wenger explains what Petr Cech has brought to Arsenal

The goalkeeper has been impressive since joining from Chelsea in the summer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has told the club’s official website just what Petr Cech has brought to the side this season.

The goalkeeper was brought in during the summer, as the Gunners moved quickly to secure him for a relatively low price from rivals Chelsea.

That deal is now looking like a bargain, with Cech having put in a number of impressive performances in both the Premier League and the Champions League.

What he has brought to the side has been widely discussed by a number of people, but Wenger believes it is three particular traits that have been crucial for his team.

“He has brought his experience, his calmness and his leadership as well. He has been good and highly focused,” he told

“I don’t want to be detrimental to David Ospina because he was exceptions last year, but Petr Cech has done it all, so he is someone who gives you an aura, a charisma that is always important in the big games for the players.”

It has certainly been an impressive campaign from Cech, with him having equalled the Premier League clean sheet record previously held by David James.

His superb all round ability has been long known after his impressive spell with Chelsea, and he has continued to show it at the Emirates this season.

It is however his marshalling of the defence, and the confidence he gives them, that has been the most important aspect he has brought to Arsene Wenger’s side.

Cech is sure to play a big part and prove vital as Arsenal bid to be Premier League champions come the end of the campaign.
