Jack Wilshere didn’t believe Arsenal had signed Mesut Ozil

The German has been highly impressive for the Gunners this season.

Jack Wilshere has told Arsenal’s official website that he didn’t believe it when the Gunners secured Mesut Ozil in 2013.

The German moved to the Premier League from Real Madrid in a big money move, with the Spanish giants deeming him surplus to requirements.

He at first came in for stern criticism for his displays, with many saying he needed to do more given the big price paid to bring him to the Emirates.

He has gone on to become a star in Arsene Wenger’s side, with him currently enjoying his best form as he leads the Premier League assists charts.

And Wilshere says they were buzzing as a squad when they secured his signature.

"I think we knew what sort of player Mesut was,” he told arsenal.com.

“I remember watching the TV on transfer deadline day and seeing that Arsenal were interested in Ozil and I almost didn't believe it.”

"When he arrived the players were buzzing and the fans were buzzing and I think that gave us all a massive lift.”

Ozil’s performances have warranted the praise he has received this season, but it is his development as a leader in the side that has been most impressive.

The German has become a leader in the side over recent weeks, with him no longer going missing in games, but instead taking them by the scruff of the neck and dominating them.

That has been most impressive about him this season, and Arsenal will be hoping he can guide them to a Premier League title come the end of the season.
