Ian Harte is keen to see Brian McDermott come back to manage Reading.

Former Reading defender Ian Harte is keen to see Brian McDermott re-appointed by the club.

Harte played for Reading between 2010 and 2013, working under McDermott at the time.

During this period the Royals achieved promotion to the Premier League, only for McDermott to become a victim of his own success as he was fired midway through the season in the top flight.

SkySports report McDermott is set to be appointed at Reading later today, with the club scheduling a press conference to unveil him as manager.

Harte used Twitter to express his view that McDermott rejoining the club for a second stint in charge is  positive news for Reading.

McDermott will replace Steve Clarke was was sacked a fortnight ago, weeks after making clear he had considered taking a job at Fulham – a post which still remains available.

Reading suffered a narrow defeat last night away to Hull City, conceding a 90th minute winner from Jake Livermore.

They currently sit 13th in the Championship table, seven points away from the play-offs.
