Aston Villa and Newcastle United target Salvatore Sirigu reportedly refuses to play for PSG

The Italian international is set to leave the Ligue 1 champions in the summer.

Last week it was reported by The Express among many that both Aston Villa and Newcastle United were interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

Villa and Newcastle both have reason to be looking at a potential goalkeeper signing.

Newcastle stopper Tim Krul has suffered yet another injury problem and Villa have been concerned with the performances of their first-choice stopper Brad Guzan.

Sirigu has lost his place at PSG, with summer signing Kevin Trapp taking over the goalkeeping duties.

So both Villa and Newcastle would seemingly have something of a free run at the Italian international come January.

Last night his situation at PSG became even more tense. With the Parisians already assured of a place in the next round of the Champions League they were always going to make some changes for the game with Shakhtar Donetsk last night. One change they planned on making was Sirigu in for Trapp.

However, according to RMC Sport, Sirigu refused to play as he continues to try and force a move away from the French capital.

The strong suspicion is that he will return to his native Italy in January.

But he certainly seems to be there for the taking if Newcastle or Aston Villa can put a deal that works together.
