SkySports pundit says Ramsey would score more than Ozil at #10 for Arsenal, Carragher's explains role

Jamie Carragher and Craig Bellamy were split over Aaron Ramsey's best position for Arsenal.

Aaron Ramsey scored for Arsenal in their victory over Sunderland - sparking debate over whether he can replace the injured Santi Cazorla in central midfield.

The Welshman was one of Arsenal's key players two seasons ago, but a succession of injuries have led to inconsistent form. Now there is hope he can get back to his best.

His best position was debated on SkySports Monday Night Football by Jamie Carragher and guest analyst Craig Bellamy.

Carragher voiced his concern over Ramsey's surges forward to join the attack leaving Arsenal's midfield over exposed.

He compared his game to one of his former teammates, stating: "It's why Rafa Benitez worried about Steven Gerrard and played him on the right."

Bellamy was asked directly whether Ramsey would outscore Mesut Ozil if he were allowed to play in the advanced role behind the striker, and responded:

"Yes, he certainly would, he wants to score, and break the lines, he is a good finisher as well."

Bellamy played alongside Ramsey for Wales, and disagreed with Carragher that he is ill suited for a central role. He said: "Before his injury [in 2013/14] he was the best player in the Premier League.

"If he could get rid of that [being injury prone] he could be the best midfielder in the Premier League."

Arsene Wenger faces an important decision this week regarding about Aaron Ramsey as Arsenal have a vital game to play against Olympiakos.

He will not be dropping Ozil from his favoured decision any time soon, so will be left with whether to 'play safe' and put him on the right, or in the centre.

Given that Arsenal need goals - to win by two, or score three and win by one - playing Ramsey centrally and simply trying to outscore Olympiakos may be their best option. They have to go for it, and bearing in mind the Welshman's eye for goal, they need to put him in the best position to make an impact on games.
