Report: Newcastle United interested in signing Rubin Okotie

Rubin Okotie's form in Bundesliga 2 has caught the eye of Newcastle United scouts.

According to a report on talkSPORT, Rubin Okotie is of interest to Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Okotie is currently playing in the German second tier with 1860 Munich, and Newcastle’s scouts have reportedly been impressed by his showings.

The 28-year-old has scored four goals in his last two matches, and there is set to be a transfer scramble for him in January.

Newcastle are said to be competing with clubs from across the continent for the forward’s signature, with Dutch team AZ Alkmaar and Russian side Rubin Kazan also interested.

Okotie has had a modest career so far, but Magpies scouts are said to have been impressed by his ability.

Okotie has earned 10 caps for Austria to date, while he has represented the likes of Sturm Graz and Austria Vienna.

Although Okotie may not be the high profile name Newcastle fans would have been hoping for, but the club’s reported interest in him is a sign that they are looking to increase their attacking options at the next opportunity.

The Magpies have struggled for goals so far this campaign, and they are in dire need of a striker to fire them up the Premier League table and away from danger.
