Pogba sibling among top 5 footballer brothers worse than Phil Neville

Phil Neville - Everton

The former Manchester United man may be living in the shadow of new Valencia manager Gary Neville, but he’s not the only one.

Spare a thought for Phil Neville this week: not only has the former Manchester United man had to watch on while Valencia opted against making him manager until the end of the season, but they’ve only gone and appointed his brother.

And while the specifics of the Sky Sports favourite’s appointment remain vague, we can’t help but feel the ex-Everton man will be feeling a teeny bit awkward about things.

But Phil Neville really shouldn’t, because there are plenty of brothers living in the shadow of their more successful siblings and he’s much better than pretty much all of them!

Here are five of our favourites:

1. Mathias Pogba

With Paul Pogba dazzling at Juventus and fellow sibling and twin Florentin at St Etienne, things are looking pretty bleak for poor old Mathias who started his career with Celta Vigo but is currently struggling for goals…with Partick Thistle.

2. Federico Higuain

Federico may have scored eight goals and racked up nine assists for Major League Soccer Cup finalists Colombus Crew this term but he will always be playing second fiddle to Gonzalo Higuain, who just bagged his 200th career goal.

3. Joel Drogba

Still only 30, Didier’s brother had a trial at Leyton Orient back in 2007 and, as a striker, signed with Metalurg Donetsk in Ukraine amid promises he could match his sibling’s scoring feats. He lasted a year and has been out of the game since, with no photographs available online.

 4. Jordan Lukaku

Though time is still on his side, we would be surprised if Oostende left-back Jordan outstripped his brother Romelu on the football pitch, though he did earn a Belgium call-up earlier this year and is a first team regular for his club.

5. Tobias Schweinsteiger

Basti’s older brother was a striker by trade and spent much of his career travelling around Germany’s lower leagues. Brought to Bayern in 2012, he was a regular goalscorer for the Bavarian’s reserve team and is now a coach for their under-17 side. Never played a game in the Bundesliga.
