Interest mounts in former West Ham starlet Danny Whitehead

HITC Sport understands a number of clubs are tracking former West Ham midfielder Danny Whitehead.

A number of Football League clubs are weighing up moves for Macclesfield Town star Danny Whitehead as he has caught the eye this season, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Whitehead began his senior career at Stockport County where he made 60 appearances before winning a move to the Premier League with West Ham in the summer of 2013.

The 22-year-old made one first-team appearance for West Ham against Nottingham Forest in last season's FA Cup before departing the club by mutual consent last January.

Whitehead then joined Accrington Stanley on a short-term deal until the end of the season and then made the switch to Macclesfield in the summer.

The talented midfielder has impressed at Macclesfield, scoring four goals in 22 appearances for the club and his displays have brought up him to the attention again of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

A host of Championship and League One sides are thought to be flocking to Moss Rose to cast an eye over Whitehead and could make a move for the player when the transfer window reopens in January.

Sheffield United are among the clubs chasing Whitehead having held an interest in the player since he impressed against them in pre-season.
