Barcelona-owned West Ham United midfielder Alex Song says that his heroes were Rigobert Song and former Chelsea great Claude Makelele.
West Ham United midfielder Alex Song has written on the club’s official website that Rigobert Song and Claude Makelele were his heroes growing up.
“I know we have some Cult Heroes returning to West Ham United this weekend,” wrote the Barcelona-owned midfielder. “My heroes growing up were Rigobert Song and Claude Makelele.”
Rigobert Song is a former Cameroon international defender and was on the books of West Ham from 2000 to 2002.
Makelele is one of the greatest defensive midfielders of all time and is an all-time Chelsea great.
The former France international joined the London outfit from Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2003 and played for them until 2008.
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Makelele won the Premier League title twice, the League Cup on two occasions and the FA Cup once.
West Ham are sixth in the Premier League table at the moment with 21 points from 13 matches.
The London outfit are just five points behind fourth-place Arsenal and appear to be in the running for a Champions League spot.
