Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham is looking sharp, but Dwight Gayle will miss their weekend fixture with Newcastle United.
According to Crystal Palace assistant manager Keith Millen, Connor Wickham is looking sharper by the day in training.
Wickham has missed much of the season so far with injury, and he has looked off the pace when he has taken to the field for Palace so far.
However, Millen feels that the forward is starting to get back to his peak physical condition – and he is rapidly catching up with the rest of Palace’s squad, in terms of their fitness levels.
KM: Connor had done pre-season when he joined us, so he's not that far behind [the rest of the squad]. He's looking sharper every day.— Crystal Palace FC (@CPFC) November 27, 2015
Wickham was handed a start for Palace when they faced Sunderland on Monday night, but he struggled to impress as his side fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat.
Alan Pardew has already confirmed that Wickham will feature against Newcastle United this weekend, though, and the powerful forward will be hoping to show the best of his ability.
Wickham is under pressure to perform, as his main rival for the striking berth, Dwight Gayle, is close to a return to fitness.
Gayle has been forced to miss Palace’s last few matches, and although he is close to making a comeback, Millen confirmed that the former Peterborough United man would not be fit enough for Saturday’s fixture.

If Palace are able to beat Newcastle they could move up to sixth place in the Premier League table.
