Jordi Gomez has told Sunderland’s official website that three Everton players are among the best he has ever played with.
Gomez was asked to name his dream five-a-side team made up of players that he played alongside during his career.
The team was largely dominated by Everton stars, with Joel Robles, James McCarthy and Arouna Kone all making the cut, alongside Swansea City’s Ashley Williams and Leon Britton.
“My goalkeeper is Joel Robles – he’s playing at Everton now," the Spaniard told Sunderland’s official website. "Well, he’s not playing, but during my time at Wigan he was really good and we won the FA Cup with him.
"In midfield, I’d have James McCarthy. He’s at Everton now, and he’s a young player with a great future. I was impressed with him, because he was very young and playing every game very well.
"The striker is between Jason Scotland and Arouna Kone, but I’m going to say Kone. He scored a lot of goals for us at Wigan, and he’s doing a great job at Everton.”
Gomez played with all three of the Everton trio at Wigan, while Roberto Martinez was in charge at the DW Stadium.
When Martinez moved to Everton, he brought the trio with him to Merseyside, and they have all had differing fortunes.
Robles has failed to displace Tim Howard in the Everton goal, while Kone has only started to make a breakthrough this season.
McCarthy, on the other hand, has been brilliant ever since arriving at the Toffees, and he is now regarded as one of the finest midfielders at Goodison Park.
