Sheffield Wednesday's Tom Lees quashes transfer rumours with latest comments

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Sheffield Wednesday's Tom Lees.

Sheffield Wednesday defender Tom Lees has seemingly quashed rumours that he could be set to move to the Premier League, with his comments on the club’s official website.

Lees has been linked with the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United in the Daily Star, but the centre-back has suggested that he is planning a long-term stay at Hillsborough.

Lees says that he wants to play in the Premier League with Wednesday, as he looks to help them mount a promotion challenge this season.

“Hopefully in my career I can play at the highest level and hopefully that will be with Sheffield Wednesday," he said. “I’m really enjoying it here and touch wood I can be lucky with injuries and see where we can get to.”

Lees has been Wednesday’s only mainstay so far this season, and his form has been consistently excellent.

The former Leeds United defender has been commanding at the back, alongside a number of different partners.

Lees has understandably attracted the attention of top-tier clubs, but Wednesday are under no pressure to sell.

The Owls are in a financially strong position, and they look to be in with a good chance of breaking into the play-offs this season.
