Monday’s $191.5 billion combination of Pfizer and Allergan pushes worldwide announced M&A to $4.2 trillion, surpassing the all-time annual record for global deal making set in 2007.

Worldwide Healthcare M&A totals $649.4 billion, more than the previous two full years combined.

Worldwide Pharma M&A totals $415.6 billion, more than the previous three full years combined.

The Pfizer/Allergan combination ranks as the second largest M&A transaction on record, behind Vodafone Airtouch’s $202.8 billion acquisition of Mannesmann in 1999.

Pfizer holds the top two spots on the all-time Pharma list with today’s combination and the $88.8 billion acquisition of Warner-Lambert in 1999.

Six of the top 20 all-time Pharma deals involve Pfizer.

Since records began in 1980, just six deals have surpassed the $100 billion mark, two announced this year. Today’s Pfizer/Allergan deal is the fourth deal announced so far this year to join the all-time Top 20.
