Leeds fans react on Twitter to Charlie Horton's departure

The young goalkeeper has left Leeds United due to personal reasons.

Charlie Horton only arrived at Leeds United in the summer, but his stay at Elland Road has been cut short due to personal reasons, with the club ending his contract early in order for him to move permanently back to the USA.

The 21-year-old is regarded as a wonderful goalkeeping prospect and when Leeds signed him from Cardiff City on a two-year deal back in June it seemed like a great piece of business.

However, Horton has now made the decision to continue his career in the MLS in order to be closer home due to personal matters and it is admirable to all concerned that he was allowed to do so smoothly.

Horton’s departure could not be helped, but it does leave Leeds with a lack of options in that position with Ross Turnbull currently out injured.

That could mean teenager Bailey Peacock-Farrell is drafted into Leeds’ match-day squad as back-up to current first-choice stopper Marco Silvestri, but only time will tell if Whites boss Steve Evans uses what is left of the emergency loan window to strengthen in that position.

Following the news of Horton’s exit we took to Twitter to see what Leeds fans thought and you can read a selection of what we found below:
