Southampton are allegedly tracking Nice star Jean Michaël Seri.
The Saints have endured an up-and-down season under Ronald Koeman, as they adjust to life without the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Nathaniel Clyne and Morgan Schneiderlin, who all left the club and joined Premier League rivals over the summer.
With five wins, five draws and three defeats, Koeman is still searching for consistency from his Southampton side, especially after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Stoke City - and January additions may be required if the Saints are to achieve another top eight finish this term.
Even after signing Jordy Clasie and Oriol Romeu over the summer, the Saints could look for another new face in midfield, with Mercato 365 reporting that Nice's Jean Michael Seri is a target.
The 24-year-old left Pacos Ferreira over the summer in order to join Nice, and his impressive displays in Ligue 1 so far have triggered interest in his signature.
At just 5ft 5in, Seri is a diminutive midfielder who has earned comparisons to Leicester City ace N'Golo Kante, given his pace and athleticism in the middle of the park.
It may be difficult to tempt Nice in to selling the Ivorian midfielder just months after signing him, but the lure of playing in the Premier League could turn Seri's head, especially with a club with a history of developing players like Southampton.
