Tottenham linked Pato lauded as 'amazing' by former coach Moreira

Tottenham linked Alexandre Pato has been hailed as 'amazing' by a coach who knows him well.

Tottenham Hotspur are negotiating to sign Alexandre Pato, report The Sun, who claim the attacker's agent is in London to hold talks.

The 26-year-old is owned by Corinthians, but has been playing on loan at Sao Paolo this year, where he scored 15 times in 44 appearances.

Pato was once hailed as the golden boy of Brazilian football, signed as a teenager by AC Milan, but did not kick on as hoped and returned to his homeland.

So what kind of player would Spurs be getting if they signed Pato?

According to his former coach, Enderson Moreira, a player still able to make a big impact.

Moreira coached Pato in Internacional's reserve side in his younger days, and told Brazilian outlet he still sees magic in the player.

He said: "I saw Pato when he was 17 as an under-20 international. He did wonderful things. I think he can still do much more.

"With the combination of ability he has, the speed, it is an amazing thing. I do not know if he is a player who needs a little more focus,  with all the attention he has had in his career.

"I am very sorry he has not had the recognition he deserves, I think he needs more ambition. He has the quality to do it."

What must be remembered...

Tottenham would not be looking at Pato as a player to lead the line. Instead he would be a complement for Harry Kane up front.

At the right price he could be a smart player to sign, and if Mauricio Pochettino judges he can play a role for Spurs, then his record as boss so far means the signing would have the support of fans.

If Spurs are really intent on making a splash in January then they could in theory sign Pato - with a speculated deal £10 million [The Sun], and add another forward to their ranks too, as any investment would be repaid by the riches of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League.
