Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson predicted on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21) that Aston Villa will lose to Watford at home next weekend.
Merson made his prediction before Villa’s Premier League match against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
Remi Garde’s side lost the game 4-0, and the former Arsenal star believes that Villans will fail to pick up even a point against Watford at Villa Park in the Premier League next weekend.
“I couldn’t think of a worse game than next Saturday - Watford, who have got pace on the break in abundance," said Merson on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21).
“They can defend, they don’t let in a lot of goals, and everybody will turn up next week going, ‘Right, we have to win this game, we have to win’.
“Everybody will be bombing forward, and they (Villa) will get picked off like a box of wood.”
Villa are struggling in the Premier League table at the moment and are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.
The Villans are currently at the foot of the league table with just five points from 13 matches, five points behind 17th-place Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Watford, who promoted from the Championship at the end of last season, are doing relatively well.
The Hornets are 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 16 points from 13 matches, as many as seven points above the bottom three.
