Paul Merson gives his damning view of Newcastle’s current team

Paul Merson says that none of the Newcastle United players would get into the Leicester City team.

Former Arsenal attacker Paul Merson made a damning comment about Newcastle United on the Gillette Soccer Saturday show on Sky Sports News HQ on Saturday afternoon (November 21).

The former England international stated that none of the players who started for Newcastle against Leicester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday would get into the Foxes’ team.

“I worry about them, I really worry about them,” said Merson after the match. “I said to (Matt) Le Tissier before the game.

“I wrote the teams down and said: 'What Newcastle player could get into the Leicester team?' I didn’t see anyone. I didn't see anybody. Now that is worrying.”

Newcastle lost the match 3-0, with the players once again failing to step up their game.

Big-name players such as Moussa Sissoko, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Georginio Wijnaldum all started the encounter, but Steve McClaren’s side still lost.

The Magpies are a massive club, but it is Leicester who are getting all the headlines at the moment.

The Foxes deserved the win at St. James’ Park and were the better team from start to finish.

While Claudio Ranieri’s side find themselves at the top of the Premier League table at the moment, Newcastle are just a point and a place above the relegation zone.
