Slaven Bilic refuses to blame Payet's absence for West Ham's heavy defeat to Tottenham

West Ham United could not overcome Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has been speaking after his side’s 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, with his comments posted on the Hammersofficial Twitter account.

Tottenham won courtesy of a brace from Harry Kane and goals from Toby Alderweireld and Kyle Walker, with Manuel Lanzini scoring a late consolation for the visitors.

West Ham have proved to be more than a match for most sides away from home this season and they have already overcome Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool to name a few. But Tottenham did not join that list of scalps, and Bilic refused to blame the absence of his star-player for the change in fortune.

Dimitri Payet has been brilliant since arriving at Upton Park from Marseille in the summer, but the Frenchman was recently ruled out for three months due to injury and now his teammates must make do without him.

“We knew we would miss Payet and we will be without him for a long time, but we didn’t lose 4-1 because he wasn’t playing,” Bilic said.

Payet scored five goals and provided four assists before he was side-lined and it will be interesting to see how Bilic rallies his troops for the challenges ahead.
