Manchester United round-up: Van Gaal wants Ronaldo and Berahino; Cole and Rodriguez also linked

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

According to a report from the Sun on Sunday, Manchester United are preparing a £25million bid for West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino in January, with manager Louis van Gaal also keen to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal has gone on record to say any manager in the world would want the Portuguese international at their club, and the latest report suggests Real would be prepared to wave goodbye to their star signing if they recoup the £80million they paid for him.

Hidden away at the bottom of the report is a suggestion that United may make a shock move for former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole as cover for the injured Luke Shaw, but with Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind also on the club’s books that rumour should be taken with a pinch of salt.

In other news, the Mirror claims United will target an alternative left-back in the form of Ricardo Rodriguez.

The Swiss international currently plays for Wolfsburg and he would be a good signing for United but with Shaw expected to be back well before the end of the season it remains to be seen what van Gaal will do in the upcoming transfer window.
