Leeds United boss Steve Evans claims Alex Mowatt and Lewis Cook were shadows of themselves against Rotherham United

Leeds United were beaten 1-0 by Rotherham United yesterday.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has told Radio Yorkshire that both Lewis Cook and Alex Mowatt were shadows of themselves against Rotherham United at the weekend.

Cook and Mowatt have been two of Leeds’ best players in recent weeks, but they were off the pace against Rotherham, as the Whites fell to a 1-0 defeat.

The loss was a huge blow for Leeds – and Evans admits that there were some poor performances from his side’s players.

“The midfield were not at it,” Evans said. “Young Cookie is a fantastic talent, but he has been away with the England under 19’s and they perhaps don’t do things the way we do.

“He looked a shadow of himself, and so did Alex. But they’ll learn from that, they’re young players – you have more concerns when the experienced players don’t perform. Kids will have ups and downs.”

Despite Cook’s and Mowatt’s poor displays against Rotherham, they are the least of Leeds’ concerns at the moment.

Cook and Mowatt are two of the finest young talents in the Football League, and it will be up to Evans to ensure that they get back on track as quickly as possible.

Leeds will need the young pair on the top of their games, too, as they are under pressure to start collecting results again.

Evans’s side’s defeat to the Millers has dragged them back into a relegation fight, and they are now just four points clear of the drop zone.
