Derby boss Paul Clement raves about George Thorne

Derby County bounced back from the defeat to Nottingham Forest with a win against Cardiff City in the Championship on Saturday.

Derby County head coach Paul Clement has told Sky Sports that George Thorne was outstanding against Cardiff City on Saturday.

The Rams defeated Cardiff 2-0 at the iPro Stadium to return to winning ways in the Championship, thanks to goals from Thorne and Andreas Weimann.

Paul Clement’s side had lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest away from home at the City Ground in the league just before the international break.

Thorne, who struggled with injuries for most of last season, started the encounter and played for the entire 90 minutes.

Clement was pleased with the performance of the 22-year-old former West Bromwich Albion midfielder and told Sky Sports: "I thought he (Thorne) was outstanding. He scored the goal but his overall performance was of a very high level.”

Thorne took four shots, had a pass accuracy of 92%, created one chance, attempted one dribble, won 43% of his tackles and 50% of his headers, and made three interceptions, two clearances and five clearances.

Derby are fourth in the Championship table at the moment with 33 points from 17 matches, just two points behind leaders Hull City.
