Tim Sherwood not the root of Aston Villa issues, says Garth Crooks

The BBC pundit says that the 4-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday showed him that there are bigger issues at Villa Park.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Garth Crooks says that their performance against Everton showed Tim Sherwood was not the problem at Aston Villa this season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss was replaced by Remi Garde earlier this month, after a disastrous start to the season saw them rooted in the bottom three of the Premier League table.

The Frenchman enjoyed a solid start with a 0-0 draw with Manchester City, but was given a clear indication of the size of the job on his hands at Villa Park on Saturday, as they were beaten 4-0 by Everton at Goodison Park.

It was a hugely disappointing display from Villa, who were comfortably beaten by a dominant Toffees side, and Crooks says it shows that there are bigger issues at Villa.

"What this performance says to me is Aston Villa's problems weren't just down to Tim Sherwood - the owners have to realise that now,” he told BBC Sport.

One problem at Villa could be the current ownership situation, with it well known Randy Lerner is keen to sell the club.

That has not happened, though, and his investment in the club has been significantly reduced over the last few years, with them often selling big in order to bring players into Villa Park.

That has left fans frustrated with the situation, and one of those is Stan Collymore, who tweeted his feelings about Villa owner during the defeat.
