Remi Garde praises Aston Villa's Micah Richards for showing against Manchester City

Aston Villa drew 0-0 with Manchester City in Remi Garde's first match in charge.

Remi Garde has told the Daily Mail that he felt Micah Richards was brilliant in Aston Villa’s match against Manchester City last weekend.

Villa picked up a 0-0 draw against City in what was Garde’s first match in charge of the Midlands side.

And Richards’ performance in the match caught the eye of the French boss, with Garde suggesting that the England international will continue to lead the side in the future.

“We have had many chats and discussions already," Garde explained. “He is a strong defender, a good guy in the group, an experienced man and he did brilliantly against City.

"He has led the team to this point and I am very pleased with that.”

Richards was brought to Villa during the summer transfer window, and he has impressed during his initial displays for the side.

Although many of the Claret and Blues’ new additions have struggled for form, Richards has adapted quickly to playing at Villa Park, and he has been one of the side’s standout performers to date.

Despite Richards’ good form, Villa still haven’t been able to make a productive start to their season, and they have been left in the thick of a relegation battle.

At the moment Garde’s side are propping up the Premier League table, and they are under pressure to start collecting points at a rapid rate if they are to get out of trouble.
