Report: Mauricio Pochettino wants new Tottenham contract for Mousa Dembele

The midfielder has been in fine form for Spurs, scoring in the recent win over Aston Villa, and Pochettino wants to see him rewarded.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen for the club to offer midfielder Mousa Dembele a new contract, reports the Mirror.

The 28-year-old has just 18 months remaining on his current deal at White Hart Lane and there have been several rumours that he could leave the club, with Serie A side Napoli thought to be chief among his suitors - as covered by talkSPORT.

That uncertainty surrounding his future came from a failure to see much game time in Pochettino’s side ahead of the likes of Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Christian Eriksen.

However, he has been a key player in their current fine run of form, after returning against Liverpool last month, and that has convinced Pochettino to offer him a new deal, reports the Mirror.

And they may move to quickly to do so, with him sure to attract interest from a number of clubs should his contract run down.

He will, though, be boosted by his return to the side, with him having already started eight games this season, He only made 10 in the entirety of the last campaign.
