Pedro Obiang has praised team-mates Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini.

West Ham United midfielder Pedro Obiang has told Spanish newspaper Marca that Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini are similar to Angel Di Maria and Andres Iniesta respectively.

Obiang, a summer signing from Sampdoria, has been in and out of the Hammers side this season due to injury and fitness problems, but the athletic midfielder is tipped to become a key player for Slaven Bilic's men once he settles down.

For now though, the attention from West Ham's summer spending has been placed heavily on playmakers Payet and Lanzini, who are both starring right now.

Frenchman Payet was always viewed as the Hammers' top signing, having been a key player for Marseille last season, and he has lived up to his billing with five goals and three assists so far this term.

Former River Plate ace Lanzini was more of an unknown quantity upon his arrival at Upton Park though, having arrived from UAE club Al-Jazira, but the Argentine has also impressed under Bilic with a series of fine performances.

Now, midfielder Obiang has spoken to Spanish newspaper Marca about both players, and compared them to two recent Champions League winners - Payet to Angel Di Maria, and Lanzini to Andres Iniesta.

"People highlight Payet. He is a superstar, he creates chances and finishes," said Obiang. "He is kind of like Di Maria! We must also recognise Lanzini. I would liken him to Iniesta - he seems fragile, but will challenge anybody."

PSG star Di Maria may have struggled in the Premier League, and Payet is far more robust than the Argentine, but he was certainly key when Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2014.

Meanwhile, Barcelona hero Iniesta has been a star player for a number of managers at the Camp Nou, including Frank Riijkard and Pep Guardiola, establishing himself as one of the world's elite playmakers.

Lanzini has some way to go before he can match the Spaniard's level, but he does have some similar qualities to the World Cup winner, in the way that he can ghost past players and create havoc in the final third - and if he continues to produce excellent performances, a permanent deal will be a necessity at the end of his loan deal.
