Mark Warburton impressed by Rangers winger Barrie McKay

Barry McKay has already made 15 appearances for Rangers this season.

Mark Warburton has admitted to the Glasgow Evening Times that he did not know much about Barry McKay prior to joining Rangers.

McKay has been a revelation for Rangers since Warburton's arrival, and he is now a key player in their starting line-up.

And Warburton has tipped the youngster to have a bright future in the game, if he can continue to improve at his current rate.

Barrie McKay I didn’t know much about, but from the first day at training he caught the eye," he said. "Technically outstanding, the quickest thing at the club, he’s 20 years old, he can play left or right, in midfield he can play eight or ten. What’s not to like?

“At the weekend for the first 20 minutes he was excellent and they were doubling up on him.

“Barrie McKay has the potential to be a real talent at this football club. He’ll get better and better.”

Prior to this season, most of McKay's experience had come while out on loan in the lower-leagues in Scotland.

The versatile attacker had spent time with Raith Rovers and Morton in recent years, but he has coped with the step-up at Ibrox with ease.

McKay has already made 15 appearances for Rangers this season, where he has scored three times, and looks set to continue to having a big part to play over the remainder of the campaign.

Rangers have won their first 10 matches in the Scottish Championship, with the side's next fixture coming against St. Mirren at the weekend.
