Leeds are lagging behind in one key area in particular during their poor run.
Before the international break, Leeds United looked out of ideas and short of creativity.
Against Brighton and Hove Albion, they had plenty of ideas on the ball – and saw plenty more of it. But that was until they got to the final third…
When it came to creating chances, Leeds looked absolutely lost. And one statistic in particular will be a little distressing for fans at Elland Road.
| Team | Chances Created | Minutes Played | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beram Kayal | Brighton | 4 | 90 |
| Liam Rosenior | Brighton | 3 | 60 |
| Gaëtan Bong | Brighton | 2 | 90 |
| Alex Mowatt | Leeds | 2 | 68 |
| Bruno | Brighton | 1 | 90 |
| Lewis Dunk | Brighton | 1 | 90 |
| Dale Stephens | Brighton | 1 | 90 |
| Bobby Zamora | Brighton | 1 | 12 |
Indeed, as Opta stats show, Leeds created just two chances compared to Brighton’s 13.
Alex Mowatt was the man who made both of United’s two key passes and it is a subject that was discussed at length by boss Uwe Rosler and Eddie Gray on LUTV after the match.
Leeds enjoyed far more possession than they usually do against Brighton but the amount of chances they created by comparison is worrying.
Is it Rosler’s system? Is it the wrong personnel? Or is confidence just low, with everyone capable of producing but struggling to find a way right now – especially at Elland Road?
Next up for Leeds United is a trip to Fulham on Wednesday night. Considering their struggles at home, a result would be very handy indeed for the Whites at Craven Cottage.
