Herve Renard responds to Sofiane Boufal speculation

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Lille midfielder Sofiane Boufal.

Lille manager Herve Renard has stated on social networking site Twitter that he hopes to keep Sofiane Boufal at the club for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old midfielder’s agent recently suggested to Sport Witness that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing him in the January transfer window.

“Of course there is interest from Tottenham and other clubs,” Yvan Le Mee told Sport Witness.

“The Tottenham story was probably written because they’ve seen him more than others and haven’t really tried to hide it, and it’s probably through that that the French media started linking Tottenham.”

Renard has said on Twitter that he wants to keep Boufal in his team beyond the January transfer window.

When asked by a Lille fan during a ‘Question & Answer’ session on the club’s official Twitter age if he hopes to keep Boufal this winter, Renard said: “I would like to, yes (smiling).”

Boufal has been on the books of Lille since January 2015 and is considered as one of the best young midfielders in Ligue 1.

The youngster has been in good form so far this season, scoring three goals and created 29 chances in eight league appearances.

Boufal has a pass accuracy of 75% and a shot accuracy of 77%, and has won four headers, 32 dribbles and 10 tackles.
