Shearer’s humorous tweet underlines a major problem Sunderland and Newcastle are facing

Sunderland and Newcastle United are in the Premier League relegation zone at the moment.

Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to make a joke at the expense of Newcastle United and Sunderland.

With no Premier League football this weekend, neither Newcastle nor Sunderland were in action today.

Newcastle legend Shearer has suggested on Twitter that it has been a good day for the Magpies and the Black Cats because they have not conceded a goal.

While Shearer’s tweet may be funny, it underlines a big problem Newcastle and Sunderland are facing at the moment.

Both the teams are struggling, and that is a key reason why they are in the Premier League relegation zone.

Last weekend, Newcastle conceded as many as six goals against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, while Sunderland let in two against West Ham United at the Stadium of Light.

Steve McClaren’s side have conceded 17 goals in the Premier League so far this season, while the Black Cats have let in as many as 18.
