Taking a look at a player Celtic were linked with in the summer but did not ultimately sign.

With another international break upon us, we can now reflect on Celtic’s season so far and specifically one potential regret their manager Ronny Deila may have in terms of his summer transfer business.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic planned to hijack Hearts’ bid to sign Nigerian international Juwon Oshaniwa on a free transfer following the conclusion of his contract at Ashdod.

But ultimately that move failed to materialise and Oshaniwa has been impressing for Hearts, featuring eight times to date and looking like a class act.

The 25-year-old may have been sent off late on against Inverness Caledonian Thistle but that should take nothing away from his early performances, and when you compare that with Celtic’s left-back Emilio Izaguirre Deila may well be bemoaning his failure to sign Oshaniwa.

Izaguirre has played 13 times for Celtic this season but some of his performances have come in for criticism and he is regarded by some Bhoys fans as the weak link in Deila’s side.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing in football, but Celtic should have made a move for the player they were long linked with before it was too late.
