Liverpool betting update: Klopp arrival expected, Benitez return unlikely, Lucien Favre linked

Liverpool have sacked manager Brendan Rodgers - who could replace him?

Liverpool have confirmed on their official website that they have parted company with manager Brendan Rodgers - even after the club's 1-1 draw with Merseyside rivals Everton.

The 42-year-old has been under pressure from Reds fans for some time now, and his reign at Anfield is now over having lost his job on Sunday evening.

Bookmakers are already pricing up odds for who could replace Rodgers - here are some of the notable names involved this evening, with odds compiled by Oddschecker.

Odds shortening

With pressure already mounting on him at Real Madrid, Rafael Benitez has been linked with a return to Anfield. The former Liverpool boss, who won the Champions League during his time with the Reds, has had his odds reduced to around 18/1 with some bookmakers - but a return to Merseyside still looks incredibly unlikely.

Swiss manager Lucien Favre is now also a name being mentioned, with bookmakers now pricing him as short as 19/2. Having recently left Borussia Monchengladbach, Favre is a free agent and has been highly-rated in recent years - but it would still be a huge shock to see him take the Liverpool job.

Odds drifting

Liverpool first team coach Gary McAllister hasn't really been mentioned as a candidate for the job, and he has now been pushed out to as far at 50/1 to be the next Liverpool manager. The Scot may be kept on in his current capacity once a new manager has been named, but it doesn't look like he has a chance of earning the top job.

Ex-Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was at around 9/2 on Monday, but with many believing that Jurgen Klopp is set for the job, the Italian has been pushed back again. Now at around 14/1, Ancelotti appears to be staying out of work rather than making a return to the Premier League.

The favourite

The bookmakers are now absolutely convinced that the new manager at Anfield will be Jurgen Klopp. The popular German is a free agent having left Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, and the 48-year-old looks set to take the reins at Anfield having been cut to 1/25 - and an appointment could well be coming later this week.
