Predicted Newcastle United v Sheffield Wednesday lineups

To be played on Wednesday 23rd September 2015 at 19:45. Venue: St James' Park.

Odds: Newcastle 3/4, Draw 13/5, Sheff Wed 7/2

Newcastle United will be looking to win only their second competitive game of the season when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at home this evening.

The Magpies have yet to win a match in the Premier League this season, and they will be keen on defeating Wednesday in the third round of the League Cup at St. James’ Park.

Steve McClaren’s side will head into this evening’s encounter on the back of 2-1 defeat to Watford at home in the Premier League.

Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment, and the League Cup will provide the players with a welcome distraction.

Wednesday returned to winning ways in the Championship on Saturday afternoon when they edged past Fulham 3-2 at Hillsborough.

The Owls themselves are not having a great league campaign, and Carlos Carvalhal’s team will be keen on winning against a Premier League side in the third round of the League Cup.
