The former Spurs man made his comments during the Premier League game between Newcastle and Watford at St. James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
"Janmaat is one of the few players in the Newcastle side that has a bit of bottle, a bit of something about him,” Crooks said on BBC Final Score. “Newcastle are in trouble and he is trying to affect the game."
Janmaat started the match against Watford and played for the entire 90 minutes, as Newcastle went down 2-1.
It was the Netherlands international defender’s goal just past the hour mark that gave the Magpies some hopes of a comeback against the Hornets.
The 26-year-old right-back took two shots, had a pass accuracy of 89%, created one chance, put in 12 crosses, and made three clearances and four blocks.
Over the course of the 90 minutes at St. James’ Park, Newcastle had 58% of the possession, took 15 shots of which five were on target, and earned five corners.
Steve McClaren’s side are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with just two points from six matches.
