Shearer reacts on Twitter to Newcastle defeat, reminds club of transfer mistake

Alan Shearer is not happy with Newcastle United’s defeat to Watford and reminds them that they could have signed Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers.

Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Newcastle United’s defeat to Watford at home on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle failed to win yet again in the Premier League, as they went down 2-1 to the Hornets at St. James’ Park.

Odion Ighalo put visiting Watford in the lead after just 10 minutes and added a second just before the half-hour mark.

Daryl Janmaat halved the deficit for Newcastle on 62 minutes, but the home team failed to stage a comeback.

Newcastle legend Shearer was following the match, and he was far from impressed with the performance of Steve McClaren's side.

Shearer’s comment about Newcastle not signing Charlie Austin refers to the club's (reported) reluctance (or failure) to recruit the Queens Park Rangers striker in the summer transfer window.

QPR wanted £15 million as transfer fee for the 26-year-old, as reported by The Mirror, with Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Norwich City and Newcastle all claimed to be interested in him.

In the end, Austin remained at Rangers, who are aiming to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.
