Report: Everton showing interest in Empoli midfielder Riccardo Saponara, already moving to sign him

Everton are reportedly making moves to sign Riccardo Saponara.

According to Calciomercato, Everton are hoping to sign Riccardo Saponara from Empoli, and have already started making noises concerning his transfer.

The 23-year-old currently turns out for the Serie A side, and has impressed this term, with the Toffees not the only side showing an interest in him.

The report also states Empoli’s Italian rivals Napoli as being keen on the playmaker, although it is explained that Empoli would prefer for him to leave Italy if they are forced into selling their star.

Who is Riccardo Saponara?

Saponara, 23, has started this season in exceptional form, scoring three goals in three games for Empoli from his attacking midfield role, whilst also registering one assist.

The former Italian youth international has had a much-travelled career, despite his youth, spending time with Ravenna before moving to Empoli in 2009. He then switched to Milan in 2013, before returning to his current side again this summer, when co-ownership rules were revised.

He has made 114 appearances for his current team during his various spells with them, scoring 24 goals and registering 26 assists, showing himself to be a consistent creative force, who also has a keen eye for goal.
