Jamie Carragher responds to a Twitter follower questioning Steven Gerrard's achievements

The Liverpool icon spoke up in defence of a fellow club legend.

Jamie Carragher found himself discussing the merits of football greatness on social media on Friday afternoon.

Indeed, the Liverpool legend and current Sky Sports pundit had raised the subject of Gareth Bale's success in the game after his exploits for the Welsh national team.

And Carragher found himself needing to respond to a follower who asked him about Steven Gerrard.

In defence of the Liverpool legend, the former defender outlined the fact he took the Reds to the Champions League in 2005, scored in finals and delivered a stunning performance in a final - the Champions League but also FA Cup.

Later responding to Carragher were a number of users who inevitably said 'but he slipped at the key moment,' although no Liverpool fan will ever be in doubt as to Gerrard's contributions and achievements within football - the lack of Premier League trophies aside.

As for Bale, Carragher's comments on the Real Madrid man also provoke thought. Should the Welshman return to England and lift a club single-handedly as the Sky Sports pundit suggests or stay in La Liga for as long as he can?
