Reports: Newcastle want Austin in January - but Palace interested now

The latest transfer update on the Queens Park Rangers striker.

The Charlie Austin saga has almost gone full circle this summer, with it looking very likely indeed the QPR striker will remain at Loftus Road beyond today (Deadline Day).

And a report in the Shields Gazette suggests that could very much be the case. Indeed, Newcastle United are said to be unwilling to try and sign the QPR man for £15 million before the transfer deadline. However, the Gazette reports Newcastle will make a move for Austin in January.

By then, the 26-year-old will be free to talk to potential new suitors and the Magpies could end up landing him on a free in a year's time or in January itself for a reduced fee.

But the London Evening Standard's report suggests that eventuality may end up being blocked by interest in the QPR forward now.

Indeed, the Standard link the likes of Manchester United and West Brom to Austin but, most intriguingly, suggest Crystal Palace are about to reignite their interest in him.

According to Sky Bet, Palace are favourites to sign the 26-year-old from QPR and the suggestion is the Eagles could well move for him if Glenn Murray leaves.

Should that prove the case, then, Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew could end up depriving his old club Newcastle of a January signing.
