Report: Arsenal and Southampton chase Real Madrid's Lucas Silva

Both Chelsea and Manchester United are also reportedly interested but the Premier League sides face competition from Marseille.

Premier League sides Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Southampton are all interested in a move for Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva according to AS.

The young Brazilian midfielder is expected to leave the Bernabeu this summer after finding himself further down the pecking order when Mateo Kovacic joined the club from Inter Milan.

And there is widespread interest in his services, with the four Premier League sides and Marseille all chasing his signature before the close of the transfer window.

Arsenal or Southampton the most likely English destination

Of the Premier League sides, Arsenal are thought to be the most likely to secure him according to the report from AS, with the Gunners having already been interested in his signature before he joined Madrid. He would provide cover for defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin, something that is desperately needed.

Southampton are then close behind the Gunners, with them needing to strengthen their midfield following the departure of Morgan Schneiderlin to Manchester United, and the potential exit of Victor Wanyama as well.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also both interested, however they remain firmly on the back burner given the options they already have in midfield, with both unlikely to be attractive to the player given the competition in the squad.

The bad news for all of them is that both Lucas Silva and Real Madrid seemingly favour him moving to Marseille, with Madrid keen to having an option to buy back the player in future and a deal just missing the approval of the Spaniards.

Should one of the Premier League quartet make a firm offer however, Lucas Silva’s head could be turned towards England instead.
