HITC Sport understands that the former England international is hoping to lure the striker to the Indian Premier League.
Luke Rodgers is being lined up for a move to the Indian Premier League where he would link up with David Platt, HITC Sport understands.
The former Manchester City assistant coach took charge of Pune City earlier this summer and he is now looking to England to bolster his squad.
And he has been made aware of Rodgers' availability and has made an approach for the former New York Red Bulls striker.
Rodgers enjoyed his spell in America as Thierry Henry's strike partner and has also spent time in Norway and Sweden, so is fully open to playing abroad.
He had been training with Mansfield Town and has also held talks with a number of other clubs in League One and League Two.
But now Platt is hoping the 33-year-old will opt for a move to Pune, where he would be able to link-up with fellow countryman Roger Johnson, Nicky Shorey, Steve Simonsen and James Bailey.
