Report: Tottenham Hotspur lodge enquiry with Bayern Munich to sign midfielder Sebastian Rode

Tottenham are interested in signing Sebastian Rode from Bayern Munich.

Tottenham Hotspur have enquired with Bayern Munich about signing midfielder Sebastian Rode, report German website TZ.de.

Rode is a 24-year-old defensive midfielder who was a regular at under-21 level for Germany.

TZ.de report that Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola has rejected Tottenham's advances for Rode, as he is planning for him to be part of his first team squad this season.

Rode was signed last summer from Eintracht Frankfurt, having been linked a year earlier by The Sun with a move to Arsenal.

He has played 35 games for Bayern in his career so far, scoring three goals and providing five assists.

Rode certainly would have been a cheaper option than Southampton's Victor Wanyama, who has been linked with a move by the London Evening Standard.

He is likely to find his role limited at Bayern despite Guardiola's good intent, but if injuries striker Thiago Alcantara or new signing Arturo Vidal as they have in the past then his chances are likely to increase.
