Indeed, the 24-year-old was in action for the Bhoys against Malmo in the first leg of their Champions League play-off at Parkhead.
Ronny Deila's men were comfortably ahead against the Swedish side on the night but a Jo Inge Berget double means Malmo now go into the second leg with two away goals to their name.
One of the goals came right at the death and plenty of Celtic fans were left bitterly disappointed - several suggesting the win felt like a defeat.
But Johansen still stood out, according to Riise, with the former Liverpool and Fulham defender sending his compatriot a message and praising him on Twitter after the game.
@stefanjohansen er Norges desidert beste spiller for tiden. Klasse! Styrer alt— John Arne Riise (@JARiiseOfficial) August 19, 2015
Riise's tweet translates as 'Johansen is Norway's best player currently. Class! controls everything.' The 24-year-old responded with a thank you message.
Johansen, then, was one of Celtic's positives on the night and, as Deila suggested after the game, there is plenty to look forward to as the Bhoys are indeed a goal ahead going into their reverse fixture against Malmo.
Obviously the second goal conceded makes things much tougher but qualifying for the Champions League group stages was never going to be easy. One more push.
