West Ham United media round-up: Striker to sign before end of window

A selection of the latest news concerning West Ham United.

According to Jack Sullivan, the Hammers will sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window, even though a deal for Raul Jimenez looks off the cards.

The East London club were looking to complete a deal for Jimenez of Atletico Madrid, and although he was granted a work permit, he is set to sign with Benfica later this week.

Surprisingly, the Hammers have also been linked with Joey Barton, as per the Guardian. Various reports claim he has been undergoing a medical with the club today, but the Guardian report outlines the actual deal.

The former Newcastle midfielder has been in talks with Slaven Bilic’s side, but they are at a preliminary stage, and both club and player are keeping their options open rather than committing to a deal.

Barton is said to be keen on a return to Marseille, but the Irons are ensuring he remains available should another midfielder need to be signed.

According to the Brentwood Gazette, the Hammers could renew their interest in Leroy Fer due to his move to Sunderland collapsing.

The Dutch attacking midfielder failed a medical at the Stadium of Light, and the report states that West Ham are looking at potentially bringing him in before the close of the transfer window.
