Fortuna Dusseldorf boss admits interest in Newcastle United's Mehdi Abeid, but denies medical taken place

The Algerian international is wanted in Germany despite a promising 2014-15.

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid is being linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The Algerian international has previously had successful loan spells at St. Johnstone and Panathinaikos in his career and last season he began to emerge as a player for the future at Newcastle.

The Shields Gazette reported earlier in the week that he was in talks with Fortuna Dusseldorf of the 2.Bundesliga ahead of a switch to Germany.

Now the Fortuna boss Frank Kramer has been speaking about the interest.

He admitted to Rheinische Post that the deal was on the cards, but that talks of a medical already going ahead were slightly ahead of the trend.

He stated:

“Mehdi Abeid is a player you always have to keep your scouting eyes on. He is definitely a player of interest for our club.

In any case, to date, he has had no medical check with us."

Abeid made 16 appearances for Newcastle last season and impressed at times for his age. However, it seems as though he is not in Steve McLaren’s plans for the upcoming Premier League season.

In that case a move to Fortuna will be good for the player.

They are one of the bigger clubs in the second tier of German football and play at a fantastic stadium with excellent support. They will be hoping to push on and win promotion to the Bundesliga this term – with Abeid seemingly in tow.
