Jenkinson suggests where West Ham are starting to look 'exceptional'

West Ham United defender Carl Jenkinson has explained his confidence in the club's attack.

West Ham United defender Carl Jenkinson has told the club’s official website where he feels the first team are looking ‘exceptional’.

The on loan right-back has been left impressed by the quality of West Ham’s attacking play, with the first game of the new Premier League season against Arsenal now just over one week away.

Jenkinson has also given his initial thoughts on the impact of new signing Dimitri Payet, who continues to impress during the pre-season period.

“Attacking-wise we're looking exceptional. Dimi [Payet], who's come in, looks very good and I think he's going to link up play between the forward and the midfielders well this year. The other boys look sharp too,” he told

A step up in pressure

The step up to the Premier League creates a different level of pressure and competition to anything West Ham have experienced, since the squad got back together for pre-season.

The real test for the attack and for Payet, in terms of judging how well they are functioning, is Premier League football.

Arsenal are a team that like to get on the ball and control possession so with someone like Payet, his fitness is going to be fully tested as well as his discipline in terms of defensive position.

Encouraging signs

The encouraging signs are that West Ham have battled their way through Europa League qualification so far and for the large part, seem to be playing a more attractive brand of football than was the case last season.

The start of the season is arguably the best time to play a team like Arsenal and it’s important the Hammers try and make the most of any momentum they can create for themselves.
